Bergen County Parenting Time Attorneys

Facilitating Effective Communication Between Parents

If you are working to resolve child custody or parenting time disputes, it is important to have a realistic understanding of the issues, the process and your chances of attaining your goals. You need an attorney who can give you a straightforward and honest assessment of your situation; an attorney who can handle your case with compassion and knowledge of the law as well as an in-depth knowledge of child development and mental health issues.

At the Law Offices of Jonathan D. Gordon, Esq., LLC, we are attentive to the needs of our clients and their families. This means creating a parenting plan that addresses all the needs and realities of the family situation. From our office in Teaneck, we represent clients throughout New Jersey with family law matters, including:

  • Child custody disputes
  • Child support disputes
  • Parenting time and visitation disputes

Parenting Time and Visitation

Parenting time agreements establish when the non-custodial parent will be able to visit or spend time with his or her child. This agreement can be worked out between the attorneys for the parties, or in mediation, through a parent coordinator or decided by a judge if the parents cannot agree. Each case is unique. We will work with you to develop the best plan to meet your needs, as well as your children's needs.  We will realistically tell you how the Court system works and what lies ahead for you and your child.

Child Custody and Support

Our firm is highly sensitive to mental health and child-related issues. We are well-equipped to represent clients with disputes over custody and parenting time. When mental health issues are involved, our firm has the background and understanding to represent your interests effectively. This includes sensitivity to substance abuse, alcoholism, psychiatric or psychological disturbances, domestic violence, child abuse and neglect issues.

We have a special interest in high-conflict disputes as well as regarding "removal applications" (when a parent seeks to re-locate with the child out of State), grandparent visitation and any other issues that affect the best interests of the child. We understand how frustrating custody matters can be for parents, and we work to obtain the best possible custody arrangements based on the circumstances.

We also help clients understand child support payments. In New Jersey, child support payments are determined by State-mandated guidelines. These guidelines dictate the amount of support a non-custodial parent will pay the custodial parent. Frequently, a client wishes to revise the amount of child support, due to changed circumstances of the payor or the recipient.
